Tommy… non apro!!! is a monologue by the main character who tells his story and who is continually interrupted by voices from “off-stage”. The stage is illuminated by a single light bulb and is cluttered by a series of objects which create the idea of the inside of a closet, the same one where Tommy used to hide when he was a young boy.
Between family affection, work and friendship, the audience participates in Tommy’s stories and accompany him in a journey which is something similar to a psychological session. The monologue is characterised by a dramatic and highly literary language somewhere between fantasy and philosophy but interrupted by Tommy’s continual sneezing, a tic which seems to beat out the rhythm of his story.
The theatrical association “Uno Spazio per il Teatro” based in San Giorgio a Cremano was founded in 1976 by Massimo Troisi and throughout the years, has become a place of reflection and training for young, emerging actors. Today it is under the direction of Vincenzo Borrelli who is assisted in this task by Dafne Giorgiano, the off-stage female voice, Marco Borrelli – the creator of the scenography and the original soundtrack, Aristide Bellone and Luca Converso, who have recorded their voices to “unhinge” Tommy’s monologue.
