The theoretical pièce Rituccia by Fortunato Calvino is inspired by the work Napoli milionaria by Eduardo De Filippo. Rituccia is indeed the youngest child of the Jovine family, the sickly child that “has to get through the night”. «I believe that this text by Eduardo – says Calvino – is a warning against every type of war, of violence, of pain. My text is dedicated to Rituccia, whose life spans from 1942 when she was just five years old to the present day. Her life was marked by the memory of the war that seemed never to finish. This is my homage to Eduardo De Filippo and to his Rituccia. This text is dedicated to all those that have had to suffer a war started by others, and to my own generation that has had the good fortune not to live through that period which was devastating for our country. To all those Neapolitans that had the courage to rebel and to rid Naples of the Germans. It is to their sacrifice that we owe our liberty, our democracy and the peace that reigns today, a supreme and indefeasible right for us and our future generations».
