Now in its fourth year, Ramblas is an event aimed both to promote and create awareness of street performances. The project is named after the pedestrian area in the centre of Barcelona and will involve mimes, cabaret artists, jugglers and acrobats who will invade the streets and squares of Naples.
Over the three weekend during the Festival, both Italian and foreign artists – previously selected through a competition – will perform in various venues in the city: Via Benedetto Croce and via Chiaia will mainly be dedicated to mimes, living statues and street bands. Via Toledo, via Scarlatti and piazza dei Martiri will be dedicated to true performances with audiences, itinerant musical bands; the Villa Comunale will particularly host performances for the younger generations. At the end of this “festival within the festival” a jury of experts will comment on all the performances and will select winners for each category with another parallel “baby” jury to independently select its own winners.
In addition to Ramblas, this year’s festival will also include “offRamblas”, a parallel session in which artists who have competed but have not been selected, will also perform inside the Ramblas venues. This year for the first time: a one week workshop held by a veritable “master” of international fame and an open seminar on issues pertaining to street performance.
