For the Donnaregina Museum Shirin Neshat and Shoja Azari have written Passage through the world, a musical and visual odyssey along the route of the ancient Silk Road. This site-specific project examines the exchange of culture and goods that have enriched the lands of Central Asia, the Middle East and Balkans, to reach the southernmost part of Italy. A contemporary artistic project which investigates the theme of loss and rebirth through a cycle of life and death, examining the different cultures encountered on this long, tortuous route. The Iranian-born composer Mohsen Namjoo’s music blends, adapts and re-adapts popular music from far-flung regions such as Tibet and Mongolia and the south of Italy. Orchestra, music, images, architectural projections, and voice are fused together in a ritual somewhat similar to the traditional music of the Campania region.
