Why did Arturo Cirillo choose to stage Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice? «Because I believe – he writes – that she is a writer with a special stunning gift for dialogues. Because I am very much fascinated by the Nineteenth Century and by the relationships connecting great novels of that time to staged arts. The poor spinster Jane Austen surely had her fun in missing out on the world surrounding her, bringing it to life in her writings. Hidden behind a curtain she observed everything, from the darkness of the scenery Jane Austen (re)invented reality through her own representations, never ceasing, however, to stay true to herself. Just like it happens in theatre».
