In addition to Reshimo, the inaugural performance of this year’s Festival, the Vertigo Dance Company will also be present with one of Noa Wertheim’s historical choreography, Mana which debuted in 2009.
In many languages of Melanesia and Polynesia, the word “Mana” means “supernatural force”. The inspiration of this choreography is the Zohar, or the Book of Splendour, the most significant medieval work based on the tradition of the Kabbalah dealing with the sublime beauty of the metaphysical characteristics of creation. From this inspiratory concept, Noa Wertheim interrogates what came first, light or darkness; thus Mana proposes a philosophical and mystical journey through these two opposing dimensions in which movement itself is used to recodify this and many other physical dichotomies: lines and circles, male and female, internal and external, freedom and imprisonment.
Following Naples, Vertigo Dance Company will go on tour, first to New York to perform in the Lincoln Center and then to China.
