Love/Hate is based on Foster Wallace’s essay Federer as Religious Experience and on the writings by Annabella Rossi, an anthropologist from Salerno. From the American author, it takes the visionary style in celebrating tennis as a metaphor of the encounter with others, and self-struggle. While the anthropologist gives life to the portrait of a humanity in which body is expression of the soul, and gives in to the mind. It digs in past memories to find its original impulses, which in this case represent an interesting opposition to Wallace’s work.
