The great master of the international theater Peter Brook will stage Lo Spopolatore by Samuel Beckett. The performance will be presented in world premiere on the 6th of June 2013, after a residence in Campania.
«Beckett – says the director – always annoys for his honesty. The public still arrives at the theater with the pious hope that before the end of the performance, the playwright will have given them an answer. We would never accept the answer he could offer us, and yet, for an incomprehensible illogicality, we continue waiting for it. When staging a Beckett text, you immediately say, “his works are so pessimistic …”. This is the word that comes back more often. And this is the word that I would like to deepen, there is nothing more positive than Beckett’s works. When we accuse Beckett of pessimism – concludes Brook – we are real Beckett characters in a Beckett play».
