In the late autumn of 1938 two men – Paolo Corbèra, a young Law School graduate from Palermo, and Rosario La Ciura, senator and eminent professor of Hellenic studies – meet in a city, Turin, which neither of them are quite familiar with. The first, Paolo, lives in a modest flat; disappointed by his many worthless love affairs he seems to be facing a “misanthropy crisis”. The second, Rosario, lives in “an old and run-down building”. The two meet in a cafè, and little by little they engage in a polite conversation made up of acute observations and shrewdness, cynical and witty humour, as they talk about literature, antiquity, and old and new life-style trends. Tomasi di Lampedusa is most famous for his novel Il Gattopardo, but one can’t help to include Lighea among his best works. This masterpiece is a “small jewel” of literature, and will be staged by Luca Zingaretti.
