Can a reflection on death become a hymn to life? That’s what happened to La classe morta by Tadeusz Kantor. Cult show of the twentieth century, it left an indelible mark in art and theater, building one of the most disturbing depictions of man’s relationship with death, a theme which, in the opinion of Kantor, contemporary society shuns. The action took place in a classroom and was played by a dozen old men. The result was that this representation of death turned into a hymn to life.
And the same will happen with La classe. The director Nanni Garella, in fact, continues the rapport with Arte e Salute onlus, an association founded with the aim of combining artistic work with work in the field of mental health, and chooses to entrust the staging of the performance to psychiatric patients with whom it collaborates by time. «Childhood has a very special meaning for them and it will be easier for them than for others to represent the beauty and the unique fullness of happiness of the lost world of the classroom».
