We have met the “country that is not there”.
We met a people, Kurdish people, who began to dream again. It dreams of being a people, without becoming a state.
To be able to live in a land of peace.
Where the diversity of religions, of ethnic groups, does not cause massacres. Where people can decide their own destiny, self-governing. Where women can leave their homes, finally discovering the face and taking the word.
We have heard their story as a story that speaks to us. Is another breath possible? Another feeling of life?
Of the struggle, of the battle, of the love, of the encounter with the world?
We finally followed the stories of that people from us, in Italy.
When the men of that people, on a boat or on land, fleeing war,
from prisons, from political persecution, they arrive on our coasts and in our cities. What is our look? What does their presence mean to us?
Il paese che non c’è is the mythical story of a people, of the resistance in the mountains and in the middle of the deserts.
It is testimony to the battle that everywhere saw him in the front row against the ferocity of the
fundamentalist militias and Islamic fascism.
It is a pulsating, present chronicle that breaks onto the scene with its news, with the irrepressible urgency of being told.
Because we need to react, even here, to us too.
Il paese che non c’è wants to make, in the present, an extraordinary territory of storytelling and theatrical action.
