The latest choreography If at all by the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company is a reflection on the “possibility” of things happening. The choreography by Rami Be’er is composed by a series of figurative circles which are formed from closed figures which slowly develop into a series of open structures. The space changes together with the dancers who seem to mould it with their bodies, immersing the spectator in a both archaic and contemporary ritual.
As for all the Kibbutz’s choreographies, the attention and focus is on the dancers’ bodies. «The possibilities of movement of the bodies – affirms Be’er – are infinite. I start from simple and daily gestures such as sitting, walking, rolling and then I add these to more complex movements».
The choreography is born from tension between abstraction and expression and leaves the spectator the possibility of constructing his or her own interpretation. «We don’t tell a story – continues the Artistic Director – but we offer the spectators an experience in which they can listen to themselves, feel their own emotions and their own memories. In classical ballet we have a story and various characters whereas this is a journey in which we want you to find the story».
