Frankenstein ’O mostro is a terrifying musical comedy which adapts the theme, characters and atmosphere of Mary Shelley’s novel – and the various literary, cinematographic and television versions – to the melodies and comedy of I Posteggiatori Tristi. This group of musicians – a comic-clownesque take on the ancient art of the street serenade – together with Sara Sole Notarbartolo have created a dramaturgical experiment by uniting Gothic myth with Neapolitan comedy, an epic novel and the misadventures of variety theatre, pop music and Neapolitan song, musical and café chantant, to create a hybrid style which evokes the composite body of the monster Frankenstein. This comic work also aims to light-heartedly exorcise contemporary monsters: precariousness, exploitation and alienation in the workplace, the poor opinion of the social function of the artist often considered as a privileged loafer or someone who pays no importance to productivity.
