Extreme and Minimal. Two international dance companies, Ballet National de Marseille and ICKamsterdam link hands. Thirty dancers, 24 from Marseille and 6 from Amsterdam mark the twentieth anniversary of the collaboration of choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten in Extremalism. Minimal and Extreme. What is the response of humanity to today’s crisis? What does a body do in extreme circumstances? Extremalism shows the power of vulnerability, makes connections between ourselves and the other and investigates the possibilities of new forms. With a glance at the past, Greco and Scholten take stock of the present and extend a helping hand to the future.
The eye-catcher in the performance is the light sculpture Chain Reaction by visual artist Henk Stallinga, a round installation that spins about itself like a terrestrial globe. It evokes the passing of time: yesterday, today, tomorrow. These elements also inspire the Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurdsson to create a new composition for Extremalism.
