Closed borders, clandestine existence, forced repatriation: these are the issues dealt with in Fabrice Murgia’s latest performance, Exils. Somewhere between documentary and fiction, reality and virtual reality, stories all dealing in some way with exile, immigration, work and the constant quest for a better life.
With video projections, multimedia and testimonials, Exils invites the viewer to reflect on the rapid changes of recent years: «The Arab Springs – affirms the director – are proof that today’s revolutions can be carried out with new weapons: Facebook and Twitter. These recent events have demonstrated that what we consider as “virtual” instruments were indeed concrete enough as to upturn very important and deeply entrenched regimes».
Long associated with the Théâtre National, Fabrice Murgia is the emerging young talent of the Francophone theatre circuit who, in his creation LIFE: RESET/Chronique d’une ville Ă©puisĂ©e, revealed his very original talent. Now, he is present in Naples with his latest work, Exils created as part of CittĂ in scena/Cities on stage, the European project which studies today’s cities as microcosms of present day Europe. Promoted by theatres of Brussels, Gothenburg, Sibiu, Naples and Madrid, the Cities on stage project will continue until 2016, involving authors and directors from many different countries.
