Sophocle’s Oedipus at Colonus is perhaps the finest declination of grief. In the play, the deep roots of mysterious energies that mankind is called to challenge since thousands of years all intertwine. The ‘trans-generational’ passing-on of evil resonates in a poetic form, where philosophy, rituality and free will meet for a fatal appointment. In the re-adapted version by Ruggero Cappuccio we land in a place of memories lost in time. A place where the everlasting traces of classicism are signs reflecting relevant issues from last century: from psychoanalysis to wars, to the struggles of the people reaching out for power.
