Teheran, November 2004. Ameneh Bahrami is 26 years old and studies electronic engineering. Majid Mohavedi falls in love with her and ask her to be his wife. She refuses, and then he throws the contents of a bottle of sulphuric acid on her face, disfiguring her and rendering her blind.
This is a story that became known worldwide. Contrary to many other victims, Ameneh decided to appeal to the Shari’a Islamic law and after a long trial she was given the right to pour forty drops of sulphuric acid into Majid’s eyes. Although with the support of the Iranian authorities, Ameneh decides to pardon her tormentor.
Chiudi gli occhi (Close your eyes) reconstructs that story through the eyes of a civil and generous Europe which has to examine its own conscience and deal with the nightmare of violence between the sexes. In Barcelona, where Ameneh moved for treatment, three persons in charge of the Association against Capital Punishment and who had until that moment supported her, now find themselves in contrast with each other. Does justice exist?
