Legends and myths tell that a strip of land of such beauty emerged between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas that people from distant lands who heard about it wished to visit it and take possession. They incurred the wrath of the gods who asked the Parcae (The Fates) to spin the thread of fate. Each filament represented the bitter fate that would have to be endured and faced in order to stave off those who wanted to inhabit it. This led to the birth of Calà, a black, gloomy soul with dull colours. Everything remained caught up in an obsessive deformation. The rituals of the Black Madonna provide the only source of salvation, the “Vow” as a form of absolution and redemption.
