“A dance project which explores the dialogue between man and his environment” is the subtitle that Vertigo Dance Company has chosen for the performance Birth of the Phoenix. And what better location than a stage perched high up above the sea?
At the centre of the performance, a geodesic dome created according the principle of sustainability: a bamboo construction raised above the ground without any foundation and composed of triangles which in turn form a series of pentagons and hexagons. Underneath this cupola – recalling the geometry of the universe from the smallest molecular structures to the relations between the stars – the public ad the dancers arranged like in a Greek theatre, perceive the visual, auditory and sensory stimuli from the surroundings.
Birth of the Phoenix is a performance which changes with the changing venue, even though the same perspective or reflection is given every time, Man’s relationship with the natural elements. The Archaeological Park of Pausilypon is therefore the ideal venue to highlight these elements and allow the audience to be immersed in an ambience dominated by natural elements.
