Founded in 2001, Ballet Black is a modern dance company directed by Cassa Pancho and with the support of the Royal Opera House and which proposes a diverse interpretation of classical ballet. The company is composed of eight international dancers with Asian and African origins. Their repertoire covers a vast range of dance styles, from classical works of more contemporary ones created by great choreographers such as Liam Scarlett, Shobana Jeyasingh, Martin Lawrance, Will Tuckett and Richard Alston. This year Ballet Black presents a special programme for the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia with two different works. With a musical accompaniment ranging from Shostakovich to Tom Waits and touching on Edward Elgar, choreographer Mark Bruce, in Second Coming, creates a fantastical universe inhabited by gods, barbarians, human sacrifice and resurrections. For the second choreography Arthur Pita has reinterpreted A Midsummer night’s dream to give life to A Dream Within a Midsummer’s Night Dream. Puck leads the public into mysterious forest: from one dream and another is born in which passion and true love flourish.
