ATLETI DELL’ARTE
incontri tra personaggi della cultura e dello sport

In Atleti dell’arte, SportOpera will present and give voice to thoughts and observations made by intellectuals, sportsmen and artists that wish to bring order among memories and meanings of arts and sports. An occasion to openly confront with those who were primarily involved, or accomplices, or even just witnesses of the typical ceremonials of a sport’s event.

EROI
Storie emblematiche di sport
di e con Andrea Scanzi
direzione tecnica e luci Simone Rota
regia Angelo Generali
produzione Promo Music Corvino Produzioni

13 giugno ore 22.15
Cortile

The journalist Andrea Scanzi is back with a new monologue entitled Eroi. In the past years he has been involved as theatre interpreter and author. The show is dedicated to some of the symbolic figures in the sport’s world. It tells of a wide range of champions, each exceptional in his own way. The “beauty” of Marco Van Basten, Alberto Tomba’s true talent, Eric Cantona’s madness, and the agony of the cyclist “Pirata” Pantani. As well as the persistence of Jury Chechi, or Alex Zanardi’s stoicism. Nadia Comaneci’s revolution, or Gianfranco Zola who turned the tables around. The surprising Roberta Vinci, or Gilles Villeneuve’s dream, at any cost. The proletarian style of Pietro Mennea. The greatness of Muhammad Ali. These are all stories of redemption, but also of dissipation, for instance with George Best.
Stories of heroes, at times against their own will. Now and forever, even just for a single day.

PER UN ATTO DI FEDE
incontro con Maurizio De Giovanni

14 giugno ore 17.00
Sala Scultura

«Above everyone else was the “Santo Volto”… an adored celebrity… with his proud gaze looking ahead, perhaps to future victories to come, with his blue shirt and flag-patch on his chest». One of the passages from Maurizio De Giovanni’s Atto di fede, in which his clever taste in mixing sacred and profane clearly emerges. The “Santo Volto” is that of Maradona, and the
faith is that of a local supporter. De Giovanni is indeed a supporter and in 2008, in his work Juve-Napoli 1-3 la presa di Torino he explains the reasons of such fundamentalist beliefs. Per un atto di fede is yet another chapter going in the direction of such narrations, one that the author has solemnly – but with an entertained mind – written. The result is a writing style in which words come out directly from him, in a very straight-forward way. The drama that becomes informal conversation is actually referring to his own act of faith and to the irrational, and unlimited passion towards football.

«Steady concentration. The run-up: an ephemeral thought of the despot mind, as it locks eyes on a fixed point on the ground. Half a circle, half a brain. The left hemisphere is the rationality which controls the body all along the trajectory; the only one possible. A motionless presence at side, until the irreversible impulse… and suddenly, action, towards oblivion». The drama by Gennaro Ascione concentrates on the instant just before a jump, and delves into the intimacy of the ritual put forth by the athlete. An athlete, in this case, challenging the laws of gravity. She sees the jump in her mind and tries to re-perform it. Thus, the written text becomes chronicle and evidence of that inner turbulence, the conflict between reason and instinct: everything passes through the senses, which are all intent in capturing that precise moment in which it is time to find a proper solution.

PATRIZIO OLIVA – SPARVIERO
di e con Patrizio Oliva e Fabio Rocco Oliva
e con Vincenzo Nemolato

16 giugno ore 17.00
durata 1h
Aula Magna

It is possible to be love-stricken. Such was the case for Patrizio Oliva. As a child, he used to practice on his own, watching and learning from the champions he saw on television. Then one day, when he was eleven years old, he was finally allowed entrance at the Fulgor, a local gym at the Quartieri Spagnoli district. In that dark and run-down basement, infested with rats, he learns the basics of a difficult and loyal sport. A sport in which intelligence is worth more than power, and respect is the first basic rule.
In Sparviero we see the description of a man fighting off all troubles and defeats, constantly challenging life. The writing style is that of Fabio Rocco Oliva, nephew of the athlete, which gives life to a portrait of the boxing champion. Audiences will come to terms with an “elegant soul” that on the ring always let out all his sentiments and passion, love for the sport and respect for the opponent: a teaching not only dealing with competition, but with life in general.
