The performance is the product of a creative writing workshop held in the Juvenile Penitentiary of Airola, as part of the wider “Il palcoscenico della legalità” project. Developed from an idea by Giulia Minoli, this project is promoted and organised by Fondazione Co2 Crisis Opportunity Onlus, Fondazione Silvia Ruotolo, Fondazione Polis, and Fondazione Falcone.
The performance shows how in prison time takes on a different rhythm, suspended somewhere between the uncertainty of the future and the perception of a present which has still to be lived.
Time is imagined as a children’s swing oscillating between fluctuating moods and desires, between confusion and certainty. Hope is represented by a good Blue Fairy, accompanied by a talking cricket.
One side of the swing represents a complicated, slippery reality made of many – perhaps too many – “ups and downs”. This is the stark reality of these juvenile delinquents; a story told from the point of view of the weakest and most defenceless; those who find it difficult to move ahead, for which an honest and decent future seems an impossibility.
