Like a postal parcel, the young European Jew Karl Rossmann is sent off to America, to escape from the scandal arising from his relationship with a maid. He has to reach his uncle Jacob, an authentic “American Uncle” who has to find him work and get him sorted out. And thus the tribulations of the young man start in an America which Kafka depicts in his wonderfully prophetic vision; its evils, its contradictions but at the same time, its incredible and breath-taking vitality.
Inspired by traditional Yiddish music of East Europe and the black jazz rhythm of Scott Joplin, this adaptation of Amerika by Fausto Malcovati and directed by Maurizio Scaparro tells the tale of the émigré Rossmann in search of a better life (the American dream?) which although apparently near, is never to be found.
This new edition of Amerika, following its successful performance in 2000, is presented in the occasion of the start of the Italian Presidency of the European Union.
