In Addio alla Fine Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten return to the style of their earlier works: very little theatricality, using only the body and dance as the starting points. Presented in the form of an itinerant performance, this work leaves the public with a powerful visual imagery. Indeed, the public meets their “guide”, Leandro Amato, at the entrance of the Museo Ferroviario di Pietrarsa; they are then taken into the Sala delle Locomotive where they line up along the sides of the stage; the performance ends in the open-air Arena, just a stone’s throw from the sea.
At the centre of the choreography is the importance of responsibility and the courage of being vulnerable: Greco and Scholten believe that only through critical thought and concrete action can the dancers, actors and spectators bring about a process of change. Greco and Scholten were inspired by two works for this performance: The Improvising Society, a text by Hans Boutellier which deals with social networks and Federico Fellini’s film E la nave va, a rhinoceros on stage as homage to this masterpiece of Italian cinema.
