An “in progress” project on La casa di Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia Lorca. Eighty years after the death of its author, Alessandra Asuni and Marina Rippa have created a new theatrical project similar to that of “La Barraca”, and in line with the words of the great Spanish writers: “to save the theatre, it has to be brought within the reach of the people. Those people already exist: they are the general public”. This residency programme is organised in June over a three-week period, and involves a group of thirty persons from Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi aware that the characters in the original text are all female. The project involves a series of meetings to organise a group work to collaborate on the re-adaptation of La Casa di Bernarda Alba, using the history and experience of life in Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, its memories and the imagination of its inhabitants. The project is faithful to Garcia Lorca’s original idea, of creating “theatre for the people” through the concrete exchange in which the personal experiences of the village are incorporated as part of the mise-en-scene and vice versa.
