“Everything started the day I accompanied my 90-year-old mother to her new geriatrician. In the waiting room, my mother’s caregiver took her to the bathroom. A moment after, the geriatrician opened the door, saw me, and said: ‘Please, it’s up to you…’. Following this hilarious episode, Paolo Hendel realizes he is inescapably approaching old age and now it is the time to handle what Giacomo Leopardi calls “the hated threshold of old age”. And Hendel performs that in a sort of self-mocking confession about the passing years.
