“Rigoletto is a monologue, so you need a character in flesh and blood to do it,” explains Marco Baliani. “Stepping inside somebody else’s skin for once is a special joy for me who, as a narrator, never normally the chance to be in another person’s shoes on stage. The second reason that led me to do this work is my passion for the circus; you know, those small circuses, not the flamboyant ones, the ones where the person who clipped your ticket moments before is moments later dressed as a clown. I wanted to pay tribute to the acrobats who fall, who are suspended high above and their lack of support”.
