A barrister, appointed to chair a commission of inquiry about desaparecidos, is rescued by a stranger who brings him back home. His wife Paulina, scarred by the violence she endured during the dictatorship, is convinced he is the man who tortured her to the tune of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden quartet. She kidnaps him to get him to confess because, in order to put up with the violence of memory, she seeks liberation that only the word of her torturer could give her. The ending sheds light on the paradox of taking the law into one’s own hands. Will Pauline turn into a torturer, thus denying herself?
