“Have a good stay in the world” is the sardonic conclusion of the farewell note that Mayakovsky dedicates to everyone. BPM – besides being its acronym – is its measure, its pulse, it is the beat of a man reduced to a “heart appendix”, it is the cadence of a poet who “is all heart”. To tell Mayakovsky’s last heart beats means to tell the end of an extraordinary generation, to narrate the rapid parable of a handful of boys who gathered under the banner of the October Revolution and radically transformed the way of conceiving their respective disciplines.
