La Omisión is a grotesque comedy which takes the theatre into the domestic ambience of the Coleman family, in the working class Boedo district of Buenos Aires, where the spectator is invited to participate.
The Coleman house is a chaotic microcosm of total disorder inhabited by five characters: Marito, Damián, Gabi (three of the four Coleman brothers), the mother Memé and the grandmother, the only character with any degree of authority. We also have Veronica, the fourth child, who preferred to abandon the family home. The Colemans lack a family head or someone to guide them; everyone is bent on pursuing their own personal objectives. But behind the petty bickering of the brothers and sisters and the intolerant anger of the mother, there is a strong sentiment which binds the members of the family together.
La Omisión de la Familia Coleman is an absurd family portrait, a wonderful example of the grotesque nature of Buenos Aires which places a range of universally ignoble sentiments in the forefront but behind, one can see the salvation of each character. Through a progression of twists and witty, irreverent quips, Tolcachir has assembled a performance which makes the spectator not only reflect but laugh at the same time.
