«I chose to set the story in a shining “Sicily of the Princes”, between the 1950s and 1960s. King Leonte hosts his friend Polissene, king of Bohemia. The party atmosphere is disturbed by the unjustified jealousy of Leonte for the excessive confidence between Polissene and his wife Ermione. The discovery of Leonte’s persecutory madness triggers a chain of events with fatal consequences for the king and anyone close to him. At a distance of 16 years from the tragic events, the story moves to Bohemia, imagined as an archaic, innocent and sacred South. The rewriting of Ianniello and Mirò gives back the pastoral atmosphere, thanks to the invention of a language inspired by the dialects of southern Italy».
