Andrea De Rosa is staging the Satyricon, inspired by Petronius and entrusting the shrewd and talented Francesco Piccolo for the script. This is how Piccolo defines his re-writing of the classical play: “The decay in Rome, the desperate opulence, the corruption, the – rather tacky – patronage of the arts. The parties, the dinners. All of this had already been considered by Petronius, but still needs to be told. To try and re-write the script, making the Satyricon a contemporary work using the linguistic clutches of today’s decadent mundanity is both electrifying and somehow natural”.
