Prima assoluta
In occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Elsa Morante, the Festival has dedicated five days of readings accompanied by the suggestive sunset in the Odeion of the
Archaeological Park of Pausilypon. A location which transports the public into a magical dimension far removed from time, just like Morante’s novel which tells the humble and daily routine of Procida, transforming the story into the timeless dimension of myth.
The text is an emblematic example of the author’s magical realism, a study of the fundamental stages in that difficult journey which takes us from the «evil and magnificent» island of childhood to the awareness of oneself and the mysteries of adult life.
An exceptional voice reads this novel, that of the Neapolitan actress Licia Maglietta who considers L’Isola di Arturo «a story of the lives of a mother and child spent together, marvellous, wise, fun […] a text which consents, or better still, obliges me to work with both these parts which I possess».
One chapter of the text is read every evening.
