Prima assoluta
Prassagora, Mao Tse-tung, Berlioz, Lafargue, Marinetti, Gulliver and the Big Brother… all led by Karl Marx in the guise of a cultural tour guide. We voyage through these different utopias staged by Giuseppe Sollazzo in the Seiano Grotto, a tunnel dating from Roman times which connects the Gulf of Naples with Pozzuoli. Written by Pietro Favari, the performance is a mélange of video installations, live music and drama which tell the story of a dream: that of an ideal world.
«While politics seems to be held hostage by financial speculation and old-time ideologies, it would be interesting – says Favari – to take a look at the past and re-examine those more libertarian utopias from the classical period to the anti-utopias of the 1900’s». This one hour performance takes the spectator on a suggestive theatrical journey through the spectacular archaeological area of Pausilypon.
Giuseppe Sollazzo studied directing at the Academy of Drama Studies in Bologna. He has been assistant director to Roberto De Simone for 18 years and also the theatre critic from 1985 to 1989 for the Naples newspaper “Il Mattino”. Director of both opera and prose theatre, he was selected as winner in the Bologna festival Visioni Italiane in 1998 with his first short film Veronica.
