Luca De Fusco brings his version of The Cherry Orchard to the Naples stage, adding a Mediterranean touch to this classic of the Russian repertoire: «Both Russian society – says De Fusco – and that of Southern Europe had great difficulties in accepting the logic of the Industrial Revolution and the story of The Cherry Orchard is a reflection of this difficulty». Indeed, the aristocratic protagonist Ljubov’, after wasting away his fortune, is forced to auction off his beautiful garden: Lopachin, a rich merchant and son of an former serf of the estate becomes the new owner.
De Fusco’s performance involves the collaboration of Maurizio Balò, Gigi Saccomandi and Ran Bagno, the same team with which he received great acclaim with the previous performances of Antigone and Antony and Cleopatra. Also part of the team is Vertigo Dance Company’s director, entrusted with the choreography.
«The language of the company – concludes De Fusco – is a true turning point. Following the first two performances based on total black, The Cherry Orchard will be an all-white performance with a softer acting style and a highly original video accompaniment which will be a true surprise for the public».
