A soulful rendition of contemporary drama following his production Hygiene and the Assassin by Amélie Nothomb, presented in the 2012 Edition of the Festival. This year Alessandro Maggi presents an equally gripping theatrical work, Peggy Guggenheim – Woman before a glass, a text by Lanie Robertson and interpreted by Fiorella Rubino.
Daughter of Benjamin Guggenheim – victim in the sinking of the Titanic – and niece of Solomon Guggenheim (founder of the New York museum bearing his name), the protagonist Peggy becomes an acclaimed collector and lover of contemporary art. The text is set in Venezia in her residence in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal in the mid-1960s.
«Peggy – says the director – reflects on the most significant moments in her life, depicting an eloquent portrait of Europe following the second World War. We enter into the life of Peggy Guggenheim, a universe which depicts her passion for life and her pitiless relationship with others; a vibrant confrontation of internal conflict, the contradictions of human beings and that desire to become an indelible part of history».
