Gianluca Merolli is a young, all-round artist engaged in various fields from cinema, theatre and music. This year’s Festival programme includes a highly-original version of The Seagull which is part of a focus on the works of Anton Cechov.
The story takes place in the summer estate of Sorin, brother of the famous actress Arkadina, who has just arrived for a brief holiday with her lover, the acclaimed writer Trigorin. Her son, Konstantin, writes plays and is in love with Nina, a young aspiring actress. During a performance of one of his plays in the garden, Arkadina makes fun of her son. In the meantime, Nina runs away with Trigorin…
«Between melodrama and a symbolic thriller, the men and women love unrequitedly: Kostja loves Nina, who loves Trigorin, who loves his poetry. In this cycle of “non-love” there is only one character in the group, Nina, who belongs to that fervent, swarming humanity. Indeed, in her desperate voyage striven by her attraction towards humanity, she is drawn in definitively when she decides to become an actress».
