The project Making Babies is inspired by the diary of the Irish writer Anne Enright. This new adaptation tells the story of the maternity of a young woman up to the second year of her child’s life; the difference is that the story is told from the point of view of the man too. Starting from the literary text, to which a series of interviews have been added, the performance reflect on the themes of maternity and paternity but with an ironic and sometimes comic bent.
«Someone – says Cerlino – defined our epoch as narcissistic, the era of the homo felix, hyper-modern and hyper-hedonist. An epoch in which there is no role for heirs, because the role of parents become confused with that of their children and satisfaction is confused with desire. Alice and Martino are two young people of our period, approaching their forties and
with a fragile vision of the future. The protagonists measure themselves against their desire and their fear of having a child. Their union appears rather like a confrontation which makes them doubt their lives and their future together».
