The title of the performance is inspired by the rules of the Turin block of flats where the Italian-French group Kulturscio’k was based; one of these rules was: “Vietato Ballare” (No Dancing). This paradoxical prohibition led Alessia Siniscalchi to a more profound reflection: «Today, are we really able to dance? Can we dance to react to the wrongs that society imposes on us? Can we dance to overcome the many paradoxes that we encounter?».
The performance therefore starts with dance to progresses on to narrative: the tale of a woman accused of theft. Having found herself on trial, she tries to extricate herself from this dilemma but she is obstructed by others; dubious witnesses of the crime who go to all ends to hinder the realisation of her dream. The dynamics between the various protagonists, all inspired by the fairy-tale Cinderella, are confused, aggressive, desecrating and fastidious.
Vietato Ballare is a bilingual choral creation, a collaboration between professional cinema and theatre actors, performers, musicians, graphic artists and photographers from Italy and France.
