Born from the pen of the Neapolitan writer Maurizio de Giovanni, il Commissario Ricciardi today is one of the best-loved characters by aficionados of mystery novels. Set in Naples in the 1930s, the adventures of the wily and shadowy Ricciardi now reaches the theatre stage in this Sonata interpreted by Andrea Renzi. Accompanying this journey we have music by Marco Cappelli and his Acoustic Trio, with Cappelli on guitar, Ken Filiano on bass and Satoshi Takeishi on percussion, and as “special guest”, the polyvalent keyboard player Shoko Nagai.
The story is inspired by an “almost unpublished” novel that has been specially adapted for this occasion. The plot progresses through three structural moments of “discovery, development, and renewal”, while the music and texts intermingle to create a sombre and dark atmosphere of the Fascist period during which this popular investigator lived
