The young Syrian director Omar Abusaada presents Mentre aspettavo, a performance which will then tour the major international cultural festivals. Brutally assaulted after crossing one of the many check-points dotted around Damascus in Syria, Taim is taken to hospital in coma. The family finds itself facing a dramatic situation: after having overcome the tragic death of the father, and the ensuing scandal, the family members seem unable to face the comatose state of their son. From his deep coma, the young man observes the relations who come to visit, superimposing their voices with his own, telling of the changes that transformed his life and his country for ever. The comatose state of the protagonist becomes a metaphor for the state of his native land «neither alive nor dead, but suspended in a grey area somewhere between hope and despair».
