Following the great success of La Réunification des deux Corées presented at the 2013 edition of the Festival, Joël Pommerat – one of the most interesting protagonists of the international theatrical scenario – returns to Naples with a performance for both adults and children, inspired by the perhaps one of the best-known Italian fable. Joël Pommerat’s Pinocchio is a lost being, guileless, bewitched, and thus «immersed in a profound theatrical state» says the author. The performance focuses on the contrast between the austerity of reality and the magic of fantasy. A free adaptation of the original work, this Pinocchio in which the child’s imagination is placed side by side with the harshness of that of the adult, addresses issues of paternity, poverty, and poses the question: can one ever pay off a debt of life? Can one become adult, while remaining free?
