Two forty-year-old friends, Tonino and Enzuccio, meet up in the street one night. They speak of this and that, sharing with each other highly unlikely plans and inconsistent ambitions. From their chit-chat, an empty feeling emerges, something that has to do with desires, dreams and aspirations that were never fulfilled. Nonetheless, that night is not like any other night.
They have an appointment with someone, an event that might finally lead to a big change in both their lives. While waiting, Tonino finds out that his friend used to play baseball when he was younger. Enzuccio explains the rules of the game to him. They even try a few plays, and during this time of innocent fun, the two of them go back to when they still had their whole lives in front of them. However, the positive change they were hoping for doesn’t quite turn out, and their appointment with faith is absurd and unrealistic. That baseball bat that was once a symbol of life and friendship will becomes a death device.
