Giardino Romantico di Palazzo Reale
(2012, 74’) by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani
In the theatre of the Penitentiary Institution at Rebibbia a staging of Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar is being performed by some of the jailed men kept in the High Security Section.
The imprisoned men, actors for the occasion, return to their cells. Six months previously, the director of the prison had announced the theatre representation project to them, who had attended the casting selections. The Julius Caesar gradually starts coming together; an occasion for the actors to see how passions, ties and bonds along with the betrayals they may lead to, can guide or throw off track the lives of men… a plot that hasn’t changed throughout the centuries and that each time is presented and reproduced – only on a different scale – in the lives of all.
