Le serve is a single act screenplay by Jean Genet. The comedy was written in 1946, and is based on a true news-report. Claire and Solange are sisters, maids in the household of a rich lady. Each time the lady leaves they enact and impersonate her, exchanging the roles of master and servant. Through this game of role-play, they let out all the anger and take their revenge on Madame.
«To critically read a text means being at its disposal – explains director of the play Antonio Capuano. One must ask the characters “what can I do for you?”. What I heard was: free women from their heaviness, the one I fear they sometimes risk to drown in».
