Dostoevsky’s adolescent interest in French socialism nearly got him killed; for his own luck, he was only sentenced to forced labour. He was then taken to a small Siberian village, a place inhabited by «delinquents deprived of any whatsoever form of civil rights; useless shreds of society». A universe that the author has portrayed in The House of the Dead, which is also one of the plot lines in this show conceived and directed by Alfonso Santagata. «Not dead faces, but doomed ones. Living, but condemned to hell says Santagata in his director’s comment. I Malvagi is a work on the shadows cast by his characters, some we might easily find in the world we live in today».
