You say it, and as you are saying it, your body is moving; a finger points out to somewhere. “Qui” (“here”), here we are, for the second year at Villa Pignatelli. Here with the poets and the poetry. Together with those who are listening and watching, feeling and finding reasons.
According to grammar, our adverb is a “deictic”. A famous linguist once stated that the deictic function is one of the functions of language. It can be said and touched. It is said and pointed out.
Language is never good enough for poets. They always prefer tailored linguistic suits, made each time just for the occasion, ad hoc, with the infinite possibilities that the world of sound has to offer.
What they make use of is a bridge-alphabet. Their words, even the most obscure ones, are always here. They require a pact that is sealed by a hand-shake. An agreement that may vary, but is nonetheless ancient.
Here they are, at Villa Pignatelli, the poets. The alphabetical ones, and the visual and sound shaping ones. The “collectors” that will launch the event with their selections. Qui is a specific site, a marked area, a perspective point. From here it is possible to go elsewhere. Somewhere beyond imagination, where language and reality are no strangers to each other, but closely connected.
The voice says “here” and the hand moves, a finger points out towards space. Here, just here: be our guests.
