For the ancient Greek Ananke was the Goddess of Fate and Necessity (of human action), but also defined by Homer as the “necessity to fight”. Patrizio Oliva is one the greatest in the history of Italian boxing. Looking through his life, in and out of the ring, it is possible to think that he was protected by some sort of Ananke. His determination to punch not his opponents, but rather the scars that life had left on him and his family, makes his sport story unique. What happened could not have been otherwise: National titles, Olympic gold, European title, world champion…
Among the steam of an Olympic sauna, sweating out excessive grams of fat in order to return in the limits of the category, and among the fumes of an earthquake that 38 years ago shook the city with all it’s uncertainties, among the white clouds on which our brother rests, stripped away from life at a young age, we like to think that Patrizio – going from divine boxer to simple actor – is the only capable of interpreting his story. Or maybe boxer, half-God and actors are all synonyms?
