«Mermaid, Queen, Goddess: these are the identities of Parthenope – sometimes sacred, others profane – found in myth, history and legends during the sixteenth and seventeenth Century. We often find her as privileged interlocutor with the city’s patron Saints – in particular with San Gennaro – in whom she believes and trusts for the city’s well-being.
During their careers, Alessandro Scarlatti and Francesco Mancini have in more occasions seized the opportunity of celebrating with compositions the mermaid/queen Parthenope, offering artwork that conveys an aura of myth and outstanding musicality, destined to be remembered».
