It’s the very first time that Ariane Mnouchkine entrusts the company of the Théâtre du Soleil to an external director, in this case Robert Lepage. The pièce immagined by the Canadian director brings together fragments of a great epic, retracing two hundred years of history in his country – “kanata” is the Iroquois word meaning “village, country” – in order to tell the opressions suffered by natives. It marks the encounter, through the actors, of two directors both convinced that artists may well be the best witnesses of their time.
